How much does an RFID label cost? This is a question that many customers are very concerned about. The price of RFID tags varies depending on factors such as material, size, frequency, chip type, manufacturing process, and purchase quantity. Therefore, it is impossible to give a unified unit price. However, we can provide some price ranges and influencing factors based on common market conditions

Tag type and operating frequency

Low frequency (LF, 125-134 kHz)

Usually cheaper, mainly used for animal tracking, access control cards, etc. The price may be around US$0.05 to US$0.5.

High frequency (HF, 13.56 MHz)

The most widely used (such as NFC, library management, payment cards, access control cards). The price range is the widest, simple cards or tags can be as low as US$0.1 to US$0.3, and those with encryption, special size or performance requirements may be around US$0.5 or even US$1.

structure

 Ultra-high frequency (UHF, 860-960 MHz)

Mainly used in logistics, warehousing, retail, and asset management (long reading distance, batch reading). This is the area with the fastest application growth and the most intense price competition.

UHF PET Label

Basic, ordinary paper/synthetic material tags (such as those used for retail clothing hang tags and logistics box labels): Prices can be as low as $0.04-$0.10, or even lower, in large quantities.
Metal-resistant tags (used for attaching to metal surfaces): Prices rise significantly, typically ranging from $0.22 to $0.30 or even higher, depending on size, material, and performance.
High-temperature resistant tags and tags made of specialty materials (such as ceramic and PCB): Prices are even higher, potentially ranging from $0.35 to $0.50.

Anti Metal ABS Tags

Chip Performance and Capacity

Storage size

(96-bit, 512-bit, 4K, 8K, etc.).
Whether encryption is supported

(such as the security features of Gen2v2).
Chip brand and model

(such as Impinj, NXP, Alien, etc.).

Tags with high-performance or high-security chips are more expensive.

Packaging Materials and Forms

Materials

Regular paper, synthetic paper, PET, PVC, ABS plastic, epoxy resin, ceramic, etc. The higher the requirements for weather resistance, tear resistance, high temperature resistance, and chemical resistance, the higher the price.

 Forms:

Standard sticker labels, cards, buttons, laundry tags, embedded glass tube tags, cable tie tags, hang tags, anti-metal tags, etc. Special packaging forms increase the cost.

 Size

Generally, the smaller the size or the required special shape, the higher the cost.
Special Performance Requirements

 Read Range

A longer read range may require a better antenna design or a higher-performance chip.
Environmental Resistance:

High temperature resistance (such as in automotive tire tracking and laundry applications), low temperature resistance, waterproofness, chemical resistance, and UV resistance.
Interference Resistance:

Use on metal or liquid surfaces (requires specially designed anti-metal/liquid resistant tags).

Purchase Quantity

This is one of the most important factors! RFID tag pricing is extremely sensitive to quantity.

Samples/Small Orders

(tens to hundreds of units): The unit price will be very high, potentially several times or even more than ten times higher than large-volume purchases due to the required startup costs.

Medium Orders

(thousands to tens of thousands): The unit price drops significantly.

Large Orders

(over 100,000 units): The lowest unit price is available. UHF tags can achieve very low costs in very large quantities (e.g., millions of units).

Suppliers and Brands

Different suppliers have different production costs, quality control, and brand premiums.
Whether to purchase directly from the factory or through an agent/trader will also affect the price.

Purchasing Tips

Clarify Your Needs

Before purchasing RFID tags, first clarify your needs, including the application scenario, environmental requirements, and intended goals. This will help you select the appropriate tag type and specifications.

Compare Prices

Compare prices and quality across different suppliers in the market and choose products with the best value for money. Also, choose suppliers with good after-sales service and a reputable reputation.

Consider Bulk Purchase

If you need to purchase a large number of RFID tags, consider negotiating with the supplier for discounted bulk purchase prices. RFID project costs extend beyond the tag itself; they also include the reader, antenna, middleware, software, and integration services. While tag costs may not be a significant factor in large-scale projects, they can be crucial in retail product-level applications. When purchasing, consider your needs and budget carefully before making your selection.
