The Internet of Things is made up of three key technologies: connectivity, identification and data manipulation
NFC
Near Field communication (NFC). NFC is a very common communication interface for mobile phones. Smart devices can exchange data by approaching each other. NFC devices can also communicate with passive NFC tags. The communication method is the same as RFID. In addition to communication protocols, the NFC standard specifies a format for data exchange. Integrated sensor card reader, sensor card and point-to-point functions on a single NFC chip for identification and data exchange with compatible devices over short distances.
Radio frequency identification
Contactless radio frequency identification (RFID) is essentially a wireless communication technology that also transmits data via wireless electromagnetic waves. However, unlike conventional communication technologies, the purpose is not to make phone calls or send text messages. Rfid is mainly used to identify and track tags bound to the object, so as to achieve object management.
The difference between NFC and RFID
1. Working frequency
NFC can be understood as a subset of RFID technology that USES the 13.56MHz band, and RFID also includes other bands.
RFID has a lot of working frequency bands, the low frequency band is 125KHz, the high frequency band is 13.56mhz, the ultra-high frequency band is 433.92mhz and 915MHz, and the microwave frequency band is 2.45ghz.
2. Communication distance
NFC is called near field communication, and the communication distance is actually very close, no more than 0.1m.
There are many types of RFID, the identifiable distance is also different. Like RFID access CARDS, the recognition distance is almost the same as NFC. However, for application scenarios such as ETC, a longer recognition distance is required. The identification distance of long distance RFID can reach tens of meters or even hundreds of meters.
3. Application scenarios
Whether RFID is active or passive, its main job is still to identify objects. Logistics, transportation and warehousing use RFID technology to track goods.
NFC chips are more integrated, including card readers and tags. In addition, the two-way communication capability of NFC has been enhanced. In other words, NFC can be used not only as an identification tag, but also as a two-way communication method for data exchange. Currently, NFC is most commonly used in the payment domain.
