In today's rapidly advancing technological landscape, utilizing RFID technology for intelligent management has become a crucial direction for industries to upgrade and transform. In 2024, domestic tire brands introduced RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology to digitally and intelligently manage tires, significantly enhancing the products' anti-counterfeiting capabilities and traceability efficiency. This has led a revolution in the intelligent management of the tire industry.
The impact of RFID on tire management is as follows
RFID technology is a method that identifies specific targets and reads related data through radio signals. It can automatically recognize target objects and obtain relevant information without human intervention. By embedding an RFID chip in each tire, a unique identifier is created for each tire, revolutionizing traditional tire management methods. In the tire market, counterfeit and substandard products persist, severely infringing upon consumers' legitimate rights and interests. With RFID technology, each tire is given a unique "identity card," allowing for easy verification of authenticity and effectively reducing the risk of purchasing counterfeit products. Additionally, RFID technology enables full-chain traceability from production, storage, logistics to sales. Any issues at any stage can be quickly located, ensuring product quality and safety, and enhancing brand credibility. This marks a new chapter in the digital and intelligent management of tires.
Types of RFID tags for tires
Typically, the following three main types of tire RFID tags are used:
- Embedded tags:
These are embedded into the tire during the manufacturing process and are usually identified by a yellow stripe.
Similar to classic tire repair patches, these are chemically bonded to the tire rubber using an adhesive.
- Smart tags:
Primarily used for tire supply chain applications, these can be printed and encoded on-site using RFID-enabled barcode label printers.
The application of RFID in tire management
1.In terms of inventory management
Warehouse Inbound Management:
When tires enter the warehouse, each tire can be affixed with an RFID tag. The tag can store information such as the tire's model, size, production date, and batch number. During the inbound process, an RFID reader can quickly read this information and automatically enter it into the inventory management system. The system can then classify and store the tires based on the information read. For example, tires can be placed in different shelf areas according to brand and specifications, which facilitates subsequent searching and management.
Inventory Counting:
Traditional tire inventory counting requires manual inspection of each tire's information, which is labor-intensive and prone to errors. With RFID technology, staff simply need to walk through the warehouse aisles with a handheld RFID readerto quickly read the information on the tire tags on the shelves.
Warehouse Outbound Management:
When tires need to be shipped out, an RFID reader can quickly identify the detailed information of the outgoing tires, ensuring that the tires being shipped match the order requirements.
2.In terms of tire traceability
Production Traceability:
During the tire production process, from the procurement of raw materials to various production stages such as rubber mixing, forming, and vulcanization, relevant information can be written into the RFID tag. For example, recording the supplier and batch number of raw materials, as well as the time and operators involved in each production stage.
Distribution Traceability:
During the sales and transportation process of tires, the RFID tag can record information such as the sales channels and transportation vehicles they have passed through. As the tire moves from the manufacturer to the distributor and then to the end user, information from each stage can be stored in the tag.
3.In terms of monitoring during use
Vehicle Tire Management:
Installing RFID reading devices on vehicles allows for real-time monitoring of tire usage. When tires need to be replaced, the system can remind the vehicle owner or fleet manager based on the information in the tag, and can recommend suitable tire models for replacement, enhancing the safety of vehicle operation.
Intelligent Maintenance Reminders:
RFID tags can be integrated with the vehicle's onboard computer system or the maintenance shop's management system. When certain tire parameters reach the threshold for maintenance or replacement, the system will automatically send a maintenance reminder. Maintenance personnel can also quickly understand the tire's historical maintenance records and replaced parts by reading the tag information during the maintenance process, providing a reference for maintenance work and improving maintenance efficiency.
